Holy Trinity

Photo taken today at Holy Trinity Church Buckinghamshire.
I know it's not a very good picture, not my fault, it's....... ok it is mine.
A very nice area around here though.
Thought I'd try and make it look a little watercolourish!!!!

Have fun.

Peter

Re: Holy Trinity

Wasn't in a very creative mood today, so just combined a few things and came up with this............for what it's worth.

Re: Holy Trinity

Fun photo to work on!

Color adjustments - Shadow Highlight, levels and Smart Blur. This softened the color palette for a watercolor look. Smart Blur eliminated some of the detail which helps for watercolor looks as well.

Made the above result a pattern stamp, grabbed brushes and started pattern painting. Start with low opacities, build up paint and brush effects.I like to add a new layer for each brush I try. I end up with lots of layers, but then I can play with combinations of layers/blending modes etc. to see various results. Some layers end up getting deleted, others duplicated and set to another blending mode. Play, Play, Play! :-)

Re: Holy Trinity

All nice stuff.
Frank not feeble at all.
Alex nice mixture of the two.
Special mention to Steve - calm down now, don't get over excited there.
Swampy very nice, any chance of a little more detail on how?

I agree, very nice stuff here on this thread. It all makes me wish I had a few more productive hours in a day so I could participate more often. Keep up the great work.

Tried again myself, using ByRo's art history pencil presets.

Re: Holy Trinity

I really like painting using the pattern stamp (it's under the clone tool in PhotoShop). There is no need to set a history state. Once you get your image color corrected, touched up etc, select the entire canvas and under the Edit menu, choose Define Pattern.

At this point, you make a new layer and pick a brush and start painting on the blank layer. Make sure Aligned is turned on in the options bar. and from the Pattern picker in the options bar, choose your defined pattern - it's usually at the bottom of the list. I usually add a white layer below the blank layer too so I can see low opacity brushes better.

The beauty of using the Pattern Stamp Tool is that you don't have to keep setting history states if you want to add a new layer or play with a new brush without spoiling your current work. Just add a new layer and paint some more.

The Brush Engine is your friend. Add textures, jitter color and opacity, apply wet strokes. It sure has opened up a whole new world of creativity for me.
