Re: Tulips and Crocus!

One more...

I took a whole new approach to the Pattern Stamp Tool. I call it "Painting with Texture"

I did not create a Pattern from the Original. Instead, I painted on blank layers above the original using the Pattern Stamp tool brushes and selecting various patterns and textures that come with PhotoShop. Things like "Blistered Paint", "Peach Pebbled" etc. Some of these textures have their own color so I just desaturated the layer after using the brush and set the layer to Overlay. This retained the actual texture of the pattern, but discarded the color so that the colors from the original appeared when a brush layer was set to Overlay Blend mode.

I did add some film grain to one of the texture layers and I think on one of the layers I ran the Texturizer filter using the same texture as I painted with. This was all experimental and you forget exactly what you did, but the principal is the same as Using the Pattern Stamp Tool with the photo saved as the source.

I've included my layers palette as a guide if you want to play.

Re: Tulips and Crocus!

Thank you Peter and Craig
Peter the embossing on the tulips is excellent gives a really nice feel to it.
That is a great filter Craig one of yours?
Sylvia i agree with Patricia you are queen of the stamp tool
Patricia the colours on your crocus is super as well as the brush strokes

the abbreviated version of the tut for me is

You have your background open with a

sketch layer on top ( any way you wish to do a sketch on this one i used the bas relief filter from redfield ) set the layer mode to multiply and opacity to about 80% can be altered to suit

then go back to your back ground > smart blur settings around 50, 50 high & normal ( or buzz or simplifying actions etc )

Copy this layer and move to the top of the stack, invert > change layer mode to colour dodge ( you can see just the sketch layer )

get your paint brush with black as your foreground colour opacity 20% flow 45% and paint away ( settings can be changed for different results )

there are umpteen options with this just experiment If you are using a photo with a lot of detail check out the tut again for more specific ways of dealing with the details. try different brushes, There are problems with a few colours but as you get used to them you can alter them at the start to get a better look
hope this helps
