Bok Tower - Be Creative

The lovely Bok Tower in Lake Wales, Florida. This is a carillon tower and if you ever get a chance to catch the concert, it's a wonderful experiece to wander the gardens while the bells are playing.

Wow! Have I been here a few times.

You forgot to mention that this is one of the highest elevations in the state!

Re: Bok Tower - Be Creative

This Tower comes as a complete shock, it's tasteful, refined and a beautiful piece of architecture. Not something we Brits would expect to find Stateside, where often things are a little brash and OTT.

Thanks for posting Swampy, and shattering one of my preconceptions (may all the others be shattered in such a pleasant way).

It's beautiful, and suits the setting perfectly.

Thanks Swampy. Don't tell Gary that Mr. Bok was born in the Netherlands. (Came to the U.S. when he was six, however.)

Re: Bok Tower - Be Creative

It's kind of sad, Gary. Many folks come to Florida and only see Disney World. Bok Tower is only 50 miles south of the mouse, but it is a completely different experience. Cypress Gardens is nearby as well as Chalet Suzanne (a romantic and very unique inn and golden spoon restaurant - bring your wallet. The Chalet was where I honeymooned many years ago. My parents honeymooned there too. No two rooms are alike and all have nooks and crannies and delightful antique/collectable decore). Google it sometime when you are surfing. :-)

Re: Bok Tower - Be Creative

Love Chalet Suzanne- but very pricey

My try on the tower, not exceptionally creative, but I liked it.

Re: Bok Tower - Be Creative

Hi Swampy,

Chalet Suzanne looks nice, pity it's painted pink. (I can feel some of my preconceptions returning , and the picture of the tacky stretched limo in front of it is re-inforcing them as I speak). Paint colour excepted though, I'm sure it's a fine place to stay (provided your wallet is capacious enough).

I know it's foolish to have stereotypes, a country of several million people can't possibly have only one character, unfortunately what most of us see of the States is what TV and the Cinema throw at us, and that is for the most part a very restricted and distorted view.

I've no doubt at all that there are a whole lot of places just like Bok Tower, that would give people a whole different perception of the States if they were more widely known.

Please keep posting them.

Thanks Palms.
I have to admit it, I am a little slow on the uptake at times.
Thanks Swampy, I was thinking about putting a Troll in there, then realised the Troll was probably busy doing the picture
