Great Blue Heron

Enjoy these shots taken last Saturday on the White River in Arkansas, USA. We were able to float quite close to these birds, who are used to humans invading their territory.

Re: Great Blue Heron

Janet,

Thank you for great photos. They are so good that I personally need to build up courage to mess them up.

Re: Great Blue Heron

These birds have a wider range than I thought. They are very prevelant in the southeastern U.S. also.

I've seen a few in Montreal...that probably makes the range even wider

Re: Great Blue Heron

Just last summer we rescued a Blue Heron from the creek on my property. He had gotten tangled in the barbed wire fence along the bank but the good news is he survivied after a couple weeks in a rescue sanctuary. He was a handfull to take care of and that beak is a very dangerous weapon. We have several bait companys in the area and they don't like the herons for obvious reasons. The birds like to sit in their ponds and partake of the minnows for an easy dinner. We can only hope the two can live together in harmony and share the food.
Here is my painting of your heron -- kind of a light water coloring.

Used GIMP's...

...Map>Make Seamless. Also adjusted focus/saturation a bit.

Edit:

Used the Seamless Tile along with GIMP's Small Tile and Mathmap with Sphere with Reflection to create this Amazing Circle.

Re: Great Blue Heron

OK; been working on a fake Poincaré technique that I've outlined here (though I have developed a cool anti-Polar cleaning technique that I've not shared yet at DPR). Thought I would repackage my last effort into this one.
