Creative Interpretations: Oak Leaves

Lot's of cool interpretations thus far. Thought I would add my recent passion which I call Splat (used GIMPressionist Ballpark preset but changed the brush to one of the Splats) Furry (another GIMPressionist preset that I modded slightly be setting the background to the image itself instead of the defaults) Impasto. Did a few other things too (as I usually always do).

This was going to be a simple smudge and texture try, but after using AHB a little it started looking pretty good. THEN IT HAPPENED !!! I started smudging the outside and forgot to check brush and it was a hair brush instead of a soft brush. It was looking interesting so I continued on. You be the judge -- -did I uncover a new technique? Anyway it made a different border around the leaves.

janet, glad i could bring back some pleasant memories

some of my filter forge textures are based on childhood memories.

me, i used to take things apart to see how they worked.

and beth, i love that! very clever!

and lyle, i like that also! it looks like the colors are just going wild and moving from leaf to leaf. very cool

Thanks Craig; that was part of the "other things" category (lol). I used AAA Color Blur filter to blend the colors into the transitions; this filter really does this quite well. Also used AAA Fotofix filter for some addition Sat/Focus enhancements.

ah, the AAA filters. i just mentioned these in the software forum. they've been upgraded. i used to use these a bit before, but probably more so now. they look better.

Nice work Peter. How did you create the texture map, if you don't mind divulging? I've made several attempts but have not been successful.

I used Swampy's tutorial with a few changes.

I applied the texture map direct onto the picture itself and not onto a colour layer. There were some other tweaks of course colour, Levels and so on. I was just playing around a lot until I saw something I liked.

Thanks for the info, Peter. I've tried it but can't see to get it to work. I increased the contrast and saved the image as a psd file named map. I duped the background image and when I tried to load the map it wouldn't load. Must be something I did wrong somewhere. I'll keep trying, though.

I started again, with a fresh copy of the original picture and voila, it worked! I guess I had a senior moment. Thanks again to both of you, Peter and Swampy, for the info and the link.
