Thumbs up Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive look

Hey everyone;

I've been playing around when I have made the time to. And I took a photo the other day in the midst of a small break out (stupid skin) .... I tried my best with the healing tool however now my mouth looks puffy and it's a different colour. The more I try to retouch the worse it gets. Could some one lend me a hand.

Also, if anyone wants to play around with this image FEEL FREE

Thanks so much.

Jillian

Re: Creative Interpretations: Free for all...

Try a levels adjustment before anything else then do a hue/saturation adjustment especially on the red and yellow channels.. Next do your healing, cloning and painting. If your healing brush leaves splotches you can clone over them at a low opacity from a similar area with a soft brush to even things out

Lyle... you inspire me once again with your sketchy interpretation. You too, J, with your avant garde pix!

Akvis sketch and Impressionist plugins on this one; framing done with PS action.

Re: Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive loo

Laughs. How could I get tired of them lkroll?!? I admire everyones work on here.
Every day I look forward to seeing everyones pieces. It gives me some ideas as to what I can try. I'm going to try some overlays .... or whatever they're called.
I also attempted to make my b/f look like a sith - hahaha - and failed horribly
Anyways thanks everyone!!!
Greg - your piece looks AWESOME It doesn't look like I have yellow skin anymore around my mouth! *does a happy dance.
You guys are so awesome at this.
Take care,
Jillian

Re: Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive loo

Sorry, been busy working someone has to pay for all my toys LOL
Your re-edits of my edit look good.

Im not sure which editor your using, but one thing to look into that will help you in all future edits of anything with skin is how to even tones out. What I do after basic color correction (white balancing) is to duplicate the layer and then start applying a smudge brush, not just any old brush, but a very soft and diffused one. when done / happy with my results I then change the opacity of the smudged layer down between 50% and 80% . this lets some of the original skin show through, makes it look more real and less plastic (the smudging process will create plastic people!).

I also have another custom smudge brush that I made for replcating skin pores, I did this by shooting (taking a photo of) a sheet of paper crumpled into a small ball. I then compressed the colors of my paper ball photo and made it black and white. Finally I made a brush out of it. When I use it I use it with the smudge tool as well and I have it set to rotate the brush randomly each time it moves (this stops the edit from looking like its calculated or patterned).

Hope that helps / Informs / Gives you Ideas

Re: Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive loo

Some forums allow for embedded thumbnail links Jullian; others don't. Unfortunately, this one doesn't. Only attachments have thumbnail previews.

Re: Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive loo

Very nice, Keiser... I esp like how you did the edges.

Welcome murck & utica: glad you found us and jumped right into the pool!

Thanks for your kind words, Granny. Got started w/BW in my dad's wet lab many, many moons ago. Nearly 50 years later I got the bug again when I discovered one could do a lot more than just pull the trigger on the Desaturate cmd.

Re: Creative Interpretations - Jillian pensive loo

Thanks Danny. I really like the way Janee's porcelain effect looks. As for the edges. I just did a selection and used a soft stripes gradient.

I really think that your b/w is fabulous.
