Old Woman

This weekend was the annual Fiddler's Festival and Competition. It brings pickers and grinners from all over the south. There is some wonderful music and lots of foot stompin' tunes to be heard as these musicians jam with each other. It is always a place for pictures. This lady came from down out of the hills to listen to the south's unique brand of music. She graciously gave permission to use her image.

Enjoy.

Janet

Re: Old Woman

Thanks for this wonderful picture, Janet!
I had a go at smudging again... I purposefully avoid the kind of baby-doll smudging that I see on forums. It's just not my style...

Re: Old Woman

Wow, Janet - there's some history in that face, eh? Thanks to you and to her for letting us artify her.

I did some HDR-like tweaking with Redynamix in CS2, then Paintered her.

Yes I agree with that Lonnie. I have done 2 versions, one is layer blends and lighting effects, the other is another play with my new toy, impressionist. Thanks again Janet for another great image.

Re: Old Woman

Sylvia: WOW another great smudge. This one is a perfect companion to the one you did of the old man.

Dkcoats: You absolutely nailed this one. Just about perfect for this picture in my opinion.

Lyle: Interesting interpretation. This experiment looks a bit like the emboss filter on steroids. I can see it has lots of possibilities.

Steve Conway: WOW another great one and ditto what I said about Sylvia's. This one is a perfect companion to the old man.

Kimlou: I like the first one but the black has too much negative space. I'd crop it a bit. The second one...right on the money. I really like it.

Alcar: Very renaissance, mysterious and moody. I like this one a lot.

OlBaldy: Very interesting interpretation. Since I'm a weaver, this one struck me as being tapestry like. I kept coming back to it and seeing more each time.

Thanks all for participating. I absolutely love seeing what ya'll come up with.

Janet

Re: Old Woman

LonK: You are TOO funny. First the eyes on the old man and now the jaw on Inez. Great caricatures.

Dcoats: This one is even better than the first one. Way to go!!!

Re: Old Woman

Very nice Craig. I think the crop added a lot to the statement and mood of the photo. Thank you.

Mine is a combination of smudge and sharpen plus a funky curves adjustment for the background.

Re: Old Woman

Craig - you have a good eye--the crop really works.
Janet, that's some nice smudging. You made it look painterly without obliterating the detail. Nifty.
Alex - I wouldn't have guessed AHB. I really like what you did with it.

Re: Old Woman

First, let me say that I'm glad this thread has inspired so many entries. I love people with lots of character in faces. It makes me think about who they are, what they have been through, and about their value as a person. This lady's face is so very intriguing;& I hoped you would find her value in the art you have posted. Kudos to all who have undertaken this portrait. Superb work all.

Alexmeta: Very interesting with the play of color and light. I stared at this for a long time and enjoyed all the nuances.

Craig: I don't know what to say about this one except good job. It is very different and makes me think of ancient ruins, metallic busts, and finding treasure.

Lqqker: WOW, superb work (as always). I don't know how you achieved this particular effect; but it is stunning in its detail and impact.

Alcar: What you are doing with Impressionist is amazing. I can't ever get it to perform that well. I love the colors, the lights and darks, the mood.

Thank you all for your work.

Janet
