mikajomc, I was experimenting with different pattern layers underneath the canvas layer while painting on the top blank layer with the smudge tool and also experimenting with different brushes.. I think the majority of this piece is done using some large hair brushes .. when done painting I did a merged copy (Ctrl-Shift-Alt-E) on a new layer, desaturated, set the blend mode to Overlay,
ran the emboss filter..

Craig, beautiful rendition..

These eyes seem to draw you in.. I get the feeling I'm an intruder or a voyeur but definitely observing someone who is beautiful

Re: creative Interpretations - Hijab and eyes

This woman is so beautiful and her expression is so emotive that I couldn't resist. I had a hard time painting her and finally gave up and went with another theme entirely. I do not mean to step on any feelings or political views. This is just what I saw in the picture. May all of us live together in peace!

Janet, all is correct, but I am afraid,
you will not understand all people.

That's extremely well done, Janet, the blending is perfect. And yep, it would be great if people could live in peace!!!
Do you know what's written in Hebrew? I tried to read it but I forgot most of the alphabet (I spent 18 months in Israel a long, long time ago).

Sylvia, In that vein. Have you read "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali? This is a biographical work about a courageous woman who survived a muslim upbringing (including female mutilation) in tribal Africa to go on to become a legislator in Holland. A price is now on her head, yet she speaks publicly on the treatment of muslim women. The book kept me spell bound by her courage and determination.
