I found this at Morguefile while looking for something else (other than a cat), and thought it may be a good one for here.

I thought so too when I first saw this artists work. Been using various simulation techniques to try to emulate this, but to no avail. Just can't beat the human touch; had to paint this one.

try this, lyle: two bananas for the beak, two grapes (purple concord) for the eyes, corn silk for the hair, and maybe some popcorn for the neck

you did that with brushes? was that with gimp or something else? i would understand if you had said psp tubes, but brushes? i'm stumped.

Yup; Gimp Image Hose brushes. Exactly analogous with Paintshop's Tubes. In fact, you can convert tubes into .gih brushes. I would provide the link, but gimptalk is currently down (they have been having a lot of technical difficulties of late).

aha! it is tubes... gimptubes gotta admire the folks working on improving the gimp. they do one amazing job to give us this all for free! quite amazing!
