Gunner, super photo. One of my favorite subjects is old houses.

I was going for a gouache/pallet knife look with lots of paint stroke texture. I did two layers of AHB. First with a broad brush to lay down groundwork the second with a more detailed brush. Added some bevel and emboss to these layers.

Restored some detail with the PST tool and also added bevel/emboss.

Stamp merged a layer and added a HighPass and sharpening. Hue/Sat adjustment and texture.

Wow. It is going to take me a month to decipher what you wrote so that I can even try it on something. Need a lot more practice. That's what it takes tho.

very nice, swampy! i had to look up 'gouache' again. for some reason i keep forgetting what that is. at any rate, i do like that 'heavier' painted look.

Thanks Gunner and Craig. I've been trying to nail this look down so I can do a tutorial, but a lot of it is brush selection. It doesn't work as well with a soft brush 'cause you need those edges to get the "slabs of paint" look. The look itself is applied using Photoshop Styles on the paint layer adding drop shadow and/or bevel & emboss. It also needs to be painted on lots of layers because if the edges of the paint strokes overlap too much you lose the "edges".

and as to how you do it, the best i've seen here, or anywhere, for that matter, was done using a pre-made texture applied to a photo. it had all the depth and edges and ridges and so forth of a palette knife work built into the texture. not sure what the person did after that, though. it was quite impressive. and no, i dont remember the link
