I was going for an "old time sketchy look." See layers palette for filters used and blend modes.

Cool picture, Barry. Thanks for the play.

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Thanks for the play, Barry

Opened the original in Camera Raw for some color and tonal adjustments then in PS did a little Topaz Adjust tweaks. Saved as a PST.

Painted with a very spattery brush using about 4 layers. I did a little Angled Stroke filter on each layer. Used a line art layer set to Color Burn and reduced opacity. Used a low opacity detail brush to PST back in some minor details.

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Great result from every one,
Palms, the enviro is safe, they have people going around with "pooper scoopers" collecting the "emissions" to use in the gardens.( definitely not 'emissions impossible')

Ammica, great work, I'm very very new to 'painting' photo's as Palms knows, so could you please explain to me in detail how you achieved that effect? (vivacity, redfield, color tweaks and paper)what software- plugins etc.?( i'm using cs3) I really would appreciate it.

Danny, love your sketch, thanks for including your layers stack, it helped a lot.

Swampy, great work as usual, i'm working with your terrific tut's.

Alex, nice result.

Regards,
Barry

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Barry, thank you for your kind words...The main effect was done with a plugin called Topaz Vivacity Sharpen, settings tweaked until I liked it...redfield is a freebie plugin which embosses set to blending of soft lkight, i guess, color tweaks were done with selective color to warm up the image a little, finally I choose a colored paper (something orange) texture pattern to warm up the image a little more, but lowered the opacity to 75%...I use CS3 as well. Unfortunately I don't keep my PS files for the little plays, you know, just keep the web-version and through away the rest...Forgot to mention, I sampled a color from the foremost horse and used this on the frame (another plugin...I don't remember though where I got it from...it's called AAA Frames)

Hope that helps some....

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Love this one -- in PS, lightened just a tad to bring out some details then used Topaz Adjust to finish.

Hmmm, looks "soft" and not sharp uploaded here but file is tack sharp. Am I doing something wrong in the uploading?? Thanks.

sometimes this happens, it is due mainly to having to reduce the file right down, but as way round this is to put a link to a bigger file size, ( links do die, but the smaller image stays around for almost ever )

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Hi Amica,
Thanks for the compliment , I've got to tell you, for the life of me I can't replicate how you did your photo. I've downloaded all the topaz + redfield plugins, and just can't seem to get my brain into gear on this one.(drat) Thats why I used the 'psyco' filter it suited the frame of mind I was in at the time. :}:}

Thanks for your help again, I'm having a lot of fun doing this.(posted a few plays on palms post today as well)

Have a nice day,
Barry.

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

:-) Know what you mean...I have asked a lot of people how they worked on specific pieces and couldn't replicate the workflow. On Vivacity you have a couple of options when you click the filter Clean; DJpeg etc....choose Sharpen, than leave the main slider alone for the moment, use advance and play with the iteration slider (max it out) than fool aorung with the line accent. finally go to the main slider and fool around there...

On the Redfield++ Bas Relief used the drop down menue (there is only 1) and choose Bas Relief (maybe you want to play with the sliders as well) and click okay. Set this layer to blend mode of soft light/overlay etc....

Hope that helps some

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

My first post

Don't know if this falls into the "Creative" category or not? Maybe Retro-Creative?

What I'm going for is to make the picture look like it was taken in the 1800s and then has been neglected, abused and unprotected for many years resulting in fading, cracking, spotting and even some coffee stains.

Thanks for any comments.

LOL! Do you know how many people pay a fortune to have old photos looking like this restored to "like new"? Great job!

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

If you were to show me some of the things that I've concocted just this year three years ago, I would say, you must be joking me. It's all about having fun Barry. If it's a joy; a passion, you will figure it out. This one was easy with various blends of Nylon (DCSpecial filter), India Ink (Flaming Pears filter) and Xylograph (Amphisoft filter). Note that India Ink and Xylograph are not free, but they do have a dumb down version (in the case of Amphisoft) and trial version (in the case of Flaming Pear) for you to try. I'm all about free (trust me; many here will vouch about how cheap I am), but sometimes you just have to splurge once in the while (have CS2 as well and very seriously thinking about upgrading to CS4 when the time comes due to some of the cool GPU acceleration features and the promise (assuming but hoping) of a realtime preview Liquid Rescale interface).

Re: Creative interpretations-Local Taxi

Your right Lyle, i'ts all about having fun and I'm having fun right now. I should have done this years ago, I'm making up for lost time. Amica warned me it's addictive, she was right!!! I'm like you and I suppose a lot of others, I collect as many 'freebies' as I can, theres nothing wrong in saving money.
Thanks for telling me how you did it, I keep all this information in a reference folder for future use.

regards,
Barry.
