Re: Autumn Barn

Years ago a landscape artist set his easel up in my yard and painted the barn in oils from roughly the same perspective that I took the photo. The barn looked a little different then. It was faded red between the two sections (no tree growing there) and housed cows and horses. I remember saying to him that it was a shame that it wasn't a sunny day and he told me that he preferred clouds and that kind of lighting. I didn't understand what he meant at the time, but I'm beginning to. His finished painting was gorgeous.

And so are the "paintings" from the artists here at RP.
Palms, yours is just what I can imagine hanging in my grandmother's parlor. I love the muted, aged look.
Steve, are you doing your strokes with a PSP brush? I have PSP XII or whatever they call it but I haven't figured it out much.
Lyle, yours is a little less abstract than usual. I like it.
Swampy, I'll have to work on that tutorial. I take a lot of blown out skies. Your painting is very, very nice, as usual.
Dan, yours looks like the barn does on our usual sunny colorful fall days. The colors are very true to life. Can you tell me what you used for the canvas texture settings?
Shari

Yeah, I do the time-honored smearing on of strokes, then brush in detail. But not the PSP brush. It does not produce the kind of look I prefer. I use Snap Art, GMX, Lucis Art, & Fractalius, among others.

I tried a Wacom one time, but found it very awkward, so I only use the mouse.

And THNX!

Re: Autumn Barn

Steve, using a Wacom does take a little getting used to, but well worth the effort. I only use it in Photoshop because I prefer the mouse for everything else.

Palms, Thanks! Glad you have a coloured street
Shari, Thank you for the nice comment! I used Fluff pencil>Water pencil with this texture.

Re: Autumn Barn

I really love Autumn for the colours it brings, even more since I've had my eyes fixed.
Thanks for the play.

May try it again sometime. Right now it just sits on my desk and stares at me.

I second what Swampy has said Steve give it another whirl ( it is not only easier for painting but selections, masks, and erasing )
