Umbrella girl Thought this photo of my granddaughter would make some kind of art. She has a "tatoo" of a bee on her cheek which I didn't clone out, but it is kind of distracting. I'm having a lot of fun with the PST. So far, it's my favorite tool because it allows me to come close to what I would paint if I could paint. Shari

Re: Umbrella girl Shari, just to second Alcar's word: beautiful girl indeed. This one was made with Topaz Clean, added some sort of dreamy glow and a texture. Forgive me, but I was missing some catchlights, so I added them as well... Nice renditions so far..:-)

Re: Umbrella girl What a fantastic capture and I really like what you did with it Shary. All the ones I see are marvelous (haven't used that term before; lol). Anyway, playing with Impressionist (via Irfanview) and GIMP. Attached is just a crop. Here's the complete rendering.

I can't take credit for that particular photo. Her Dad took it. (I do have his permission to post it). It is one of my favorites. She was about four years old in the picture. Alan-She's going to love reading what you wrote. I agree with you, of course. I also thought that something about the photo invited an impressionist interpretation. Amica-the catchlights you added are perfect. I thought they were needed too but wasn't sure how to add them. DKCoats and Palms- I wouldn't know that yours were done with a computer if I saw them printed. Palms, I really like your edge look. Is there a tutorial out there for that? DKCoats, I had to google GMX. If it does for all what you did with this I may have to start saving my pennies. Swampy-I'm still learning and thanks for the excellent tutorials you have on your site. I had a lot of technical difficulties, but can finally see and hear them. Secret agent-I liked yours very much. Lyle-thanks so much for your kind comments. I'm going to show these to the young lady in question today. It'll be interesting to see what the "model" thinks. Shari |

Re: Umbrella girl Lyle, I like that one better. Try as I might, I just prefer the more reaistic renderings to the abstract. It's probably a right-brain, left-brain thing. But your other pictures left Beanie in a fit of giggles.

Re: Umbrella girl To everyone- Beanie was quite flattered by all your artwork. She told me she couldn't pick a favorite. She liked them all. Thanks a bunch for making her day. Now a question-I'd like to figure out how to take a photo and wind up with an illustration similar to those done by Maud Humphrey Bogart at the turn of the last century. Does anyone have any idea, or has anyone ever found a tutorial for something similar? Shari

Re: Umbrella girl Gilbert, Your painting is really lovely. I am so envious of your talent. I wish I could come up with a result even half as good as that. Craig, Thanks for compliment. The model is a delightful young lady. Vidyakk9, I would have never thought of embossing the umbrella. Shari

Re: Umbrella girl Yes, it's near. I have a collection of Victorian ephemera (thanks to a great great grandmother who never threw anything away) and Maud's children decorated a lot of calendars and trade cards in the late 1800's. Her watercolors are charming. That's pretty much the look I'm after. Any pointers? Shari

Re: Umbrella girl Shari a bit of waffle I am afraid The backgrounds seemed to be similar so i used the gradient tool to get the background of something of the same color On the children illustrations that i have seen there seemed to be some "greenery or flora" so found some brushes Then i had just happened to of seen this thread at dpr and thought that it gave the "look" so smudging came to mind ( i think with the colourization way a closer look could of been achieved not sure if it would work making a colour image b&W then colourizing ?) Any way to help with the colouring on this image i duplicated the background,& used. image >apply image, making the blending screen Then a quick smudge, masked the background used the leaves brush and lastly added film grain sorry to be long winded about the answer I thank you for the challenge i really enjoyed it and i think it worth having another try with a different image, in fact i think it could make a new forum challenge thingy to try and replicate different artists any one else think so ? You aren't being longwinded, you are being very helpful. I think trying to replicate different artists would be fun. It's been a long time since I studied them and I, for one, could use the incentive. Shari
