Re: Why not artify some cat?

This is my first post to RetouchPro. I have been reading post for months and have found some really valuable information. Thanks everyone. I saw the photo of beautiful Bobo and could not resist giving his photo a seasonal treatment. I took a photo of the santa hat (which I had bought for my cat!), removed the background and added the santa hat to Bobo's photo using Photoshop. Then I just painted in a Christmas holiday like background. I'm also attaching the santa hat separately with a green background so the background can be removed easily (drag hat to your photo, use magic wand tool, select green area and hit delete). Feel free to download the santa hat and use it on your dog or cat photo. Resize and rotate hat using the transform tool.

Oh, Joe!! That is truly beautiful. How do you 'fake' smudge? However you do it, it really makes you feel like you can touch that fur.

Hey Swampy my way of doing a fake smudge

-Over sharpen your pic
-Rotate it 90CW-Diffuse-Aniosotropic-fade 50%
-Rotate 90 CCW twice-Diffuse-Aniosotropic-fade 50%-rotate 90 CW
-Sharpen again
-Copy that layer-Median 20-Gaussian 10(half of what ever radius you use for Median)
-Reduce opacity until you smooth the edges
-Alt-click to create mask and hide it
-scrub with white brush at 50% over edges to smooth
-flatten and sharpen again to your liking

I like doing it this way instead of using the smudge brush because it gives me more control with smoothing the edges.

I don’t know if it makes much sense but that’s the way I do it.

Joe
