Re: Creative Interpretations – Old house

Thought sure Steve would have put up the song called "This Ole House" written by Stuart Hamblen and published in 1954.

Back story:
"This Ole House" was reportedly inspired while on a hunting trip with a friend. The two men came upon what looked like an abandoned shack, wherein was the body of an elderly man, apparently dead of natural causes. Hamblen wrote the lyrics to the song on the spot, on the back of his lunch bag, and composed the melody within a week....

"This ole house once knew his children
This ole house once knew his wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now he trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about"

CHORUS:
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the windowpane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
He's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

I sort of hate to admit that I remember when it came out!

I'm throwing up a few PBAs for fun. Not my usual pursuit, but I love looking at what all of you have been able to create from the photos.

I'm not old enough to remember when it came out, (he said with sheepish grin on face.)

That's a standard in country and western and gospel music. I had never heard the story connected with it however. Rosemary Clooney had a very popular recording of it also.

Thanks for posting it and story. (I like that kind of thing.)

Ya, sorry about that, my site was acting strange for a while there. It seems fine now.
