Any one up for a real challenge ?

As you have looked at this post you are interested or intrigued ?
well i found this tutorial the other day

and have given it a real quick go and quite liked it as well as enjoyed it
i used the image peter posted in this thread
so how about having a go using any image you want, honestly it is not as bad as you think ( although i didnt expand by 5 as i thought it might slow the pc down some ) i need to learn al lot about light and shadow to give some dimension but i will have another go

so be brave give it a go and post your outcome ( even if you dont like it )

look forward to some brave people having a try

oh and i dont mind if you laugh at my attempt

No laffs, that's actually quite good.

Critique - maybe the lines in the hair can follow the shading in the hair a little closer/tighter. The face and neck need a little light/dark shading to define cheek/neck/jaw.

Lots of fun! This is my try. I followed the tut for a while and then kind of lost the plot and went my own way.
On a related note...anyone about to replace thier old tablet who would like to donate it to an aspiring grafic artist pm me and I'll send you my addy.

WOW my thumbnail looks awful!

Not bad at all Crazyfly in fact quite impressive especially the eyes, like you i went my own way a little and as fluffbut says the outline could be better and work on shading but will give another go soon and maybe some different brushes ( i didnt use the ones in the tut)
plus i wonder what a landscape or flower would look like ?

Re: Any one up for a real challenge ?

I had this Photoshopped self portrait of my alter ego "Ogre" lying around so I thought it would be a good candidate for this process
(my wife hates this pic and I can't imagine why!!!)

Newbie Re: Any one up for a real challenge ?

I used the image in the tutorial and was not satisfied with my results at all. So I kept the original background, toned it down a little, Gaussian Blurred it, modified the color, and then added the texture. All designed to disguise my poor attempt with this one, unsuccessfully.

Re: Any one up for a real challenge ?

I admit to using the tutorial as a base then going my own way. I spent way too much time on this. And I'm still not happy with the results.

GHolmes, your rendition is great.

Janet

P.S. I knew I had seen a similar thread here at RTP. http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/doo...hic-image.html
