Something different to artify

I'm fairly new to this photo based art.

A friend of mine has given me this photo of her old property and wants me to make it into a painting, but not sure how to do it as all the detail is so small.

Any suggestions for this type of photo?

She also prefers not to crop in too much as they want to keep the hills etc.

Re: Something different to artify

Do you have the original or just a scan?
how big is the original?
How big does she want the painting?
Color or Black N White Painting?
Do you have a high resolution copy you can post on a host site?

If you are using Photoshop, try playing with the artistic filter settings. For example:

Re: Something different to artify

sponge03, You can host your image on your own site or elsewhere and attach a link, Alternative Image Hosts if you do not have your own site are: ImageVenue.com (3Meg max, free) or pixentral.com (2Meg max, free) or photobucket.com (1 Meg max free,... 5 Meg PRO) or mediafire.com (100 Meg per file) ... then post a link here in the thread to the site that is hosting your larger image.

Alternatively, RokcetScientist recommends using one of the FREE Large File Transfer services – if you have a broadband connection! – to send your full res image to your own mail address, then open that mail message, copy the link that's in it, and paste/post that link here.

• Podmailing.com is FREE and allows transfer of unlimited numbers of files of unlimited size. RokcetScientist has transferred up to 6GB files without a hitch.
http://www.podmailing.com/

• Yousendit.com is FREE up to 1GB/month with max 100MB per transfer.
http://www.yousendit.com/

• Pando.com is FREE up to 1GB of files or folders per transfer.
http://www.pando.com/

There are many more hosts out there.. so it is really up to you which one you are comfortable with and which service will make the full size available for download

Re: Something different to artify

I tried a fake smudge just because of the way it affects the trees and did a sepia version to even things out and lighten it a bit.. I like BitG's version (Good Job BitG! ) so I guess I should've added some clouds... but you can do that on your version if you want to...

Re: Something different to artify

Trying to be more colourful.....
in PS used hue/sat adjust layers to add colour
then used buzz to simplify and blended ps cloud filter effect.

Total time 20 mins

Re: Something different to artify

What a beautiful old photo. It actually reminds me of a past town which was flooded to form a power-generating lake. It's Lake Wallenpaupack in NE PA and that was done in the 1920's. The mountains around the town provided a deep bowl for a very pretty lake. Anyway...

I just painted on a layer above it, color blend setting and used a sky from one in my archives.

It is cropped it to a standard panoramic size.

Re: Something different to artify

There's some really great stuff here! I did a fake smudge too, but went very heavy with it. And then I did a bunch of other stuff too - just playing around.

Wow, I really like your version Kiska. Looks like a duo or tri tone, and most effective.

Re: Something different to artify

One can attain cross processing effects using Photoshop as well as with Tiffen Dfx v2.0.
Try it you'll like it.
