Newbie Another Paris Street Scene

It's in the Marais district, the 4th I think it is by number. Something to while away any remaining time you all may have.

Great picture Gunner.

I've been playing with Dynamic Auto Painter (DAP) and thought I would post a pic using the Van Goh Starry effect to see what people think.

I very much like the middle part, Skip, but don't quite care about the blue "border", but that's just a matter of taste

The blue border is to much for me also. But the rest has possibilities.

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Thanks Amica - No I haven't tried making my own preset yet. Looks a bit complicated to me.

Sylvia and Gunner - I agree, sometimes the border effect falls short. It seems to work better with some of the other effects, or you can just do an effect without a border. The program gives you a lot of options.

Still learning.

Nice photo. My interpretation used Topaz Simply followed by a custom setting with the Impressionist Plugin.

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Thought I would give this one a try.

Question...any suggestions on saving your file for upload, I have to reduce the quality setting to low, how do your optimize quality for the 100K file size limit.. Thanks

Peter

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Swampy have been missing the pst versions

Alan brilliant really like the combination

Steve great colours in your interpretation

PeterI great verison may i ask what you used ?

as for saving use the save for web function on images posted here you wont be far away from being under the 100k unless you use a lot of filters etc then just reduce down as low as you dare ( or resize using the % bit till you get down to size, well that is one of my ways )

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Hi Palms,

Thanks for the information on file saving, that was pretty much what I did, I did not realize that the filters would add so much to the size of the original file, was shocked to find the file size 5x larger than the original when I went to save it with a quality setting of 10 and had to drop the quality to 3 to make it under 100K, good to know for the future.

I did my version in PS, did a sketch layer for detail, use Buzpro3 to simpifiy and made a Chalk layer in impressionist. Normalized the color with a color cast layer and adjusted the layer blending and the final color in curves. I was inspired by your version, really liked the effect you got on the buildings in the foreground.

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Thank you for your workflow Peter

If you think that adding the filters make for big files just wait till you add textures super big then you reduce them in size then to about a postage stamp

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Another way to increase your file size for uploading is to become a Patron by registering and paying an annual fee. The file size limit increases to 200KB. So ante up! This also helps support the cost of making this site possible.

I love what you all have done with this and after I have my second knee replaced in July I hope to go back next year when I can walk places quicker. Oh, also all the bathrooms in Restaurants are either upstairs or downstairs. ---OF COURSE---

And so here it is. Afraid I got a little carried away with Painter Essentials 4 after using 2 other plug-ins in Photoshop.

Gunner, maybe I hung out in all the wrong places.. You have brought back memories of little foot places over a hole, brown walls because of no paper, and very odorous... 'Course that was way back in the late 50's early 60's..

Anyway, I thought I would date your scene to reflect my era...

I am sure things are a whole lot better Now-A-Days..

Have Loads of fun on your next excursion!

Hmmm, I'm from France, and I've spent 30 years there. I've never ever seen what you describe, not even close! But then I'm younger than you

As for the bathrooms being downstairs, I think it's mostly in Paris, due to the lack of space. Don't forget that most of the buildings are really old and were probably built before proper bathrooms existed. That's my guess

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

I don't mind them being downstairs or even upstairs as in some places. It was just that my right leg had an extreme case of nerve impingement that meant doing a 5 minute walk someplace took 10-15 minutes.

Other than that I just love Paris, as well as the rest of France. I mean what's not to love. The French know how to enjoy life.

Yes, they have it pretty good there, too bad they don't realize they're very privileged, compare to the rest of the world ...
I love France much more now than when I was living there. I guess I realize now what a beautiful country it is, especially when you're a photographer !!!
Have you ever been to Normandy? That's where I'm from.

Re: Another Paris Street Scene

Yes, we spent a couple of days in a Castle there as we went to see Mont st Michele, the beaches, and the cemetery. But we actually started out in Rouen, where my wife spent a summer during under-grad school at the Univ. of Texas. Living with a French family. After the time spent with the family all the various student in France met in Paris and then were given a guided tour of various places all over France. So thank god she can recall her French these days as I can barely speak English But I do know how to say and how important it is to say Merci, Bon Jour, etc. In France and anywhere else courtesy is very much appreciated and rightly so. I learned how skewed my thinking was when I was in Okinawa the first time.........
