Re: Nice sketch software

Also, if you separate your darks for separate processing, you can do an edge detect and feed that input into Impressonist #pencil>geo chaotic chrome and do some blends to get reasonable results imo. Sample link below.

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=32093336 (I did add a canvas blend too. ).

Re: Nice sketch software

Thanks for the suggestions, they would make real improvements. I'll admit I was a little over energized, my first chance to submit an illustration as a newbier. I just worked it up on-the-fly. I'd also do another layer and make the tram's brush strokes shorter, narrower and directionally random, maybe add a slight blur to everything except the tram, reduce it all to backround, or add outline, as you suggest, before putting it through the wide brush layer. Lots of possibilities. It's definitely a down and dirty pix that could use thoughtful refinement. Good suggestions. Thanks

Re: Nice sketch software

Divide and conquer technique separating the darks for separate processing. Then fed result into impressionist and blended that result back in. Some smudge cleaning and texture added.

Re: Nice sketch software

Here's my effort.

1. Desaturate.
2. Dupe and change blend mode to screen.
3. Dupe until desired lightness is achieved (3 times). Then merge the dupes with the desaturated layer.
4. Dupe this layer.
5. Make selections around eyes, nostrils and lips with lasso tool. Feather 2 pixels.
6. Invert selection and apply Gaussian Blur set at 50. Set blend mode to Screen.
7. Dupe the layer below and put at the top of the stack.
8. Dupe this layer, invert. Then use Filter/Other/ Minimum and set to 1. (See Swampy's Line Art Tutorial.
8. Set the blend mode to screen and lower the opacity to 50%.

Re: Nice sketch software

Here are a couple more versions. On both I separated the highlights and darks on separate layers (per Lyle's suggestion) and did a little smudging to get rid of the pixelation. On one I just used a white background. On the other I used a copy of the original photo and lowered the opacity so it would blend in with the white background.

Re: Nice sketch software

Never got to that sketch thing, got sidetracked
No 1 many layers (impressionist, different outlines, textures)
No 2 Nicks old photo filter with color adjustment
No 3 standard highkey
