Paint Engine (beta) plugin - work under Vista? Has anyone had success installing/using the original (free) Paint Engine pe.8bf plugin under Vista? If so in what \folder does one save fmachines.ini file? (I will be helping a friend who is a Vista user with some arty plugin setup soon. I have yet to take the Vista leap.) Thanks...

Re: Paint Engine (beta) plugin - work under Vista? Didn't know if Vista literally has a "c:\windows" folder. I would still like to hear from someone who has plowed this path. Hate being a pioneer if I can avoid it!

Re: Paint Engine (beta) plugin - work under Vista? Yes; Vista has c:\windows. Also, as a side note, it has c:\windows\temp.

Re: Paint Engine (beta) plugin - work under Vista? danny, generally speaking, what works under xp will work under vista... generally. in fact, there is a feature for running under a 'compatibility mode'. so far, everything i've installed in vista that i had (and still have) in xp, works fine. also, .ini files can be put wherever the program is installed. just have them in the same directory shld work fine. .ini files are sort of what the registry was before it became the registry.. sort of. an .ini file is a configuration file for a program. it told the program where things were and how to find them so that all parts of the program could and would work together. if every program had an .ini file again, we wouldnt need the registry.

Re: Paint Engine (beta) plugin - work under Vista? I agree 100% with what you said about ini files Craig. I despise the registry and think this is Microsoft's biggest mistake imo. Just an opinion. Even Linux uses what amounts to ini files and it's quite a stable OS. My Microsoft created this monster is up to Microsoft to answer. They thought they would be clever and it would make backup for system configurations easier I guess, but the registry makes it so easy for hackers to mess you PC up that Apple still makes fun of PCs. lol
