Dog-Easy Fake Smudge

I found this pic at http://www.sxc.hu/photo/670280 and it looked like a good candidate for a really easy way to fake smudge it. The compression thing killed my pic when I saved it but the full size version turned out well. Could save a lot of time used as a base for a real smudge.

Easier Fake Smudge Base

-Copy background
-Redfield Perfectum to smooth out edges(40%)-you could use any noise reducing software
-Topaz Vivacity-Sharpen-Line Accent-1 Iterations-6 (I think all Topaz plugins have that sharpen feature but I might be wrong)
-Buzz-Simplifier 1-70%
-Mask out the eyes or what ever needs to be sharp and reduce opacity to taste

Re: Dog-Easy Fake Smudge

Cool find. Had to highly compress (and crop) for post. Used G'MIC Pencil and some real (selective) smudges for this one along with some creative layer blending.

Thanks for the workflow, probably the best imitation I've seen so far.

Re: Dog-Easy Fake Smudge

I like dogs...very much, and wanted to do a different sort of treatment for this image. His pose reminded me of half a yin yang position, so just went with it, and considered it as a piece of American Southwestern style ornament.
