Big Red Flower

Here's a pic of a big red flower I took, thought it might be fun to play with.I've added my version using Fractalius.

Re: Big Red Flower

Love the fractilus treatment by the way (wish I had it). Anyway, went for a fine art type of interpretation this time.

There doesn't appear to be a Mac version. Anyone know of a similar Mac friendly plug-in that does a similar transformation>

Re: Big Red Flower

Nice image, great flower capture. Added grain to the background and painted, then finished up using Impressionist.
Beautiful rendition Lyle.

Re: Big Red Flower

Many very interesting variations.

I used a Gaussian blur on the background, blended a couple layers of Topaz simplify and adjust, and played around until I got something that resembled a watercolor.

Re: Big Red Flower

Great work everyone. I fussed with a variation last night but am not too pleased with the results. Ah, as long as I call it a "learning experience" it's not all bad, right? Wishing a dramatic appearance, I wanted to produce some light effects on the flower. BUT, PS>filter>render>lighting effects was a bomb. No spotlight worked on the black background. Humph...I know there's a solution, exactly what I do not know - yet.

Dan, oltenius, yours was most interesting. I really like the watercolor effect and can see how the shape & dynamics of the brush help to achieve that. But please, if you will, explain to me how the Art History Brush is effective in those beautiful colors? Did you alter the colors first? Then use the AHB? It's really lovely, the effect is fabulous.

Re: Big Red Flower

Veronica, Thanks for the appreciation!
Well, first alter the colours for any photo, then use AHB, often alternate pattern stamp tool and AHB for best results. Place in the top of the layers the original photo or sketch and play with blending mode and opacity. Use USM, Selective color, Color balance...
Hope you understood my strong English! LOL
Best wishes,
Dan

Redone & re(something) with AHB. I'm still not pleased with the result but I'm sure getting a lot of practice.

Re: Big Red Flower

Cut it out and put it on a background. Over sharpened it and kept going back and forth with the diffuse filter in PS...something magic happened when I adjusted it with S/H

Re: Big Red Flower

Outstanding work by everyone.
Lyle, especially so. Does that technique lend itself to other images? I mean, more simple, less complex. The background was simple to start with and your style here added so much extra detail. Amazing.

Re: Big Red Flower

I tend to play at the seat of my pants (with the more then occasional binge; lol) so I don't know to what type of images that this technique would be friendly to. Do appreciate the comments though Veronica.

The process is relatively simple (for a simpleton like me; lol). I run DCSpecial's ICE4 filter followed by GREYCstoration and then used this result as a mask for the original (made the darks transparent). I then ran Plastic Wrap Script-fu for the gloss step and added some wood texture and color (brownish) for the polished carved wood result.

Re: Big Red Flower

when i'm working on filters in filter forge, i often require a test image. these, as often as not, come from RP and this forum just because i save so many to work on and i save to my album by month. so, this month i happened to have the 'big red flower' when i was testing filters and came up with these:
