two strangers on bikes

I thought this was a fun image to retouch and thought others might like to play with it

Enjoy!

Re: two strangers on bikes

Just thought they would be less strangers to each other if they were a little closer in physical proximity. Or not. Also, if they are closer, that should make them sit up a little straighter, along with the buildings.

I had a stopover in Amsterdam for a couple of days on my way to Canada last spring. I do hope to come back some time, really liked the city.

An enhanced embossed version. Was the shot staged or impromptu?

Pavel - Yes it's a very pretty city.
John - wow! That one's interesting. They were just pedaling by so impromptu

Lyle-I think you created yet another new genre! You know in a few hundred years they'll be teaching Ikroll innovation in art school :-)

Re: two strangers on bikes

Some pseudo lucis followed by edge enhancement. Nothing too terrible I guess and quality has degraded quite badly compressing to jpeg

Re: two strangers on bikes

secretagents - your version is very 'the new art' meaning it's a pretty cool mix of styles

Ah, thanks

I have made another version, nothing too special and quite similar to the other one but as you like the style I am attaching it

Re: two strangers on bikes

secretagents - I like that drawn/outlined effect. I've ended up with that look by accident a few times and wish I knew how to create it deliberately. The selective color really focuses the eye
John - Our quest for realistic brush strokes has taken us to the far corners of cyber space, no? I like how the strokes follow the contours of the image - did you make a custom brush strokes file first? If so was it with Photosketcher?

No, not Photosketcher. I simplified the image first by applying a false interlace to it. Then merged the original image several times to recolor the lines. This gives a tone blending to the horizontal lines in shades of the original image. The brush effects were done in Impressionist using the, Old Master, preset that has been slightly modified. Brush strokes, yes a never ending challenge so it seems. One of the things that irks me the most is that the simple filters blur the image to much. I have seen some really nice effects here at RP though, so know that it can be done.

Re: two strangers on bikes

Nasturtium, I am using Belousov's Edgecrement plugin for that effect which I apply after applying some smoothing

You can get it here, it's free so there is no reason not to have it :

Re: two strangers on bikes

Btw, I have made another version using the precedent ones as a start and this time using Mehdi's excellent fine threshold plugin.

Re: two strangers on bikes

Hi, what's the problem with Edgecrement? It is not a difficult filter is it or am I missing something?

Glad you like the pics I made btw
