This old guy looks to me like he's been through many battles...and is still standing.

Enlarged original eyes via select and pull corner (what's that process called?)
A rainbow gradient layer over lion face set to color mode.
Then, used a mask to bring back some orig color of his fur.
Did several layers of AHB (working toward watercolor effect).
Grunge brushes on overlay layer, incl. paper brushes.

Thanks Lynn...yeah, grunge brushes do come in handy from time to time, though in my real life I'm a germ-o-phobe!

the King was a lot of trial and error, not sure what direction to go. Ended up with a less contrasty image and tried to refect the light different.

In the end, he suprised me.

It combines: high pass, diffuse, smart sharpen, and surface blur
