WOW - Photoshop CS5 painting capabilities

This example was created byTim Shelbourne using the new painting capabilities of Photoshop CS 5.

My opinion: VERY impressive. I think the folks at Corel who make Painter have reason to be very nervous.

Re: WOW - Photoshop CS5 painting capabilities

i think ANYBODY with hopes of competing with photoshop is scared out of their wits with cs5! this is not a small upgrade. and the stuff i'm seeing and the capabilities being shown in videos is just outstanding!

frankly, i'm in a bit of 7th heaven... new quad core 64 bit computer, new camera, filter forge 2 is coming out soon, cs5, win7 64 bit, and a couple of other art apps... smoookin!

Re: WOW - Photoshop CS5 painting capabilities

Hey Chaps,
Thanks for the link. The stuff I've posted so far are really just for my own amusement, and there's lots more to come... just as soon as I can.
As Photoshop ugrades go, this for me is the most significant yet in many ways.
As far as Corel painter is concerned, and as a long-time user, we're not really comparing like with like, but I can say that CS5 has a lot of things very, very right... which is refreshing. As far as I'm concerned, as an artist, ultimately it comes down to not how many tools you have at your disposal, but WHAT you do with them, and how you use them!
Anyway, enough said.. I'm loving CS5, and they'll be much more to show, very, very soon.
Oh, and it's great to be back here BTW.
Kind regards,
Tim.

Hey, thanks for adding that, Tim. Really remarkable. How long did it take you to do the "painting"?

I've tried several times with corel painter and just cannot get the grasp of it also I found the tutorials not clear at all, I am very new to virtual oil painting and I've managed to at least climb one step up the ladder which i am very pleased with I have a very loong way to go yet but photoshop is much easier to use and looking what cs5 can do I just cannot wait to upgrade from cs4 to cs5.

thanks for sharing the link

Re: WOW - Photoshop CS5 painting capabilities

I just finished watching both videos on the new mixing and blending brushes and they look pretty cool. Like most people I've given up on trying to learn Painter. This is the first upgrade since CS2 that might be worth paying for. Nice job by Adobe. Pretty cool.
