Abstract designs !

I found this video tut yesterday and have been having a mess around with it ,

abstract designs

good fun, not hard, the outcome depends on the shape made and your imagination, plus you can then add backgrounds use filters etc

for those who are using dial up or dont have to much time

open up a new image ( i use white then change later)

on a new layer make a shape ( stick like with points or curves is best ) with a selection tool of your choice ( have included one i made so that you can see)

fill with a gradient

then transform ( i think you can do this other ways in different software ) rotating the shape a bit and making slightly smaller

dup layer and transform

then repeat again and again and again and again ( get the message )

then flatten all bar the background ( you can then move the design change colour/scale and start all over again

hence why in the video you are shown how to make a action for it just to speed things up

i have made a very basic one which goes through the motions twice, ( so you will still need to push the button a few times) I am sure a much better one can be made by someone with more patience than me

this is a very quick and short version of the tut he does go into more detail, with a lot more ideas on getting the designs that he gets and is well worth watching

look forward to seeing if someone else has a go and posts there outcome

sorry but this action works best when using the same size of image that i was

Re: Abstract designs !

And another thingy
this time instead of drawing a shape i used one of my smoke brushes, selected and then added a gradient
when i had finished i duplicated and added motion blur to the bottom one

Re: Abstract designs !

I didn't use the action method in the tutorial. I used paths and duplicated the paths. Then I ran gradients here and there and experimented with blend modes on the gradients. Since I was in a funky mood, I added the fairy and the word PooF for a bit of whimsy.

Since I couldn't leave well enough alone, I created this other shape using a brush, which then became a path.

Enjoy,

Janet
