Newbie Merry Old Two

Second image from his trip to the UK. Remember that it was just before "Guy Fawkes' Day," in England. For more info on him see this Wiki article.

In 1957 my first trip to England I was there for the Guys day and all the little kids were going around Oxford asking everyone, "Penny for the Guy" with their hands out. This was still in the era of the large penny. As large as our old Silver dollars. Enough about history for now.

Sometimes I can run on, what?

Re: Merry Old Two

I like, I like. You seem to almost always manage to get some depth or texture like in your work. Wished I had the patience to work with the app that you do.

Re: Merry Old Two

Not that hard Gunner. Mainly FotoSketcher with Oil Pastel Sketch (increased the small brush size). I did amplify the colors (that's not hard either).

Tried to do a watercolor but the compression just killed it. Oh well.

@Gunner: I'm a true blue Windows fan and would never go to the dark side And use a Mac, but isn't there something on the Mac called Wine that allows Mac owners to run Window apps?

Re: Merry Old Two

With modern PCs, Virtualization really isn't that bad. Typing this message now in my XP VM (run Win7 64 as main OS and an XP VM Client for browsing for security reasons). I believe not only Wine, but also Parallels for Mac will allow you to run Windows programs.

A lovely scene. I have a very similar image taken in Irelands last year. Here's my play.

Re: Merry Old Two

nice street scene Gunner

In the old days (well my youth ) you used to make a "guy" from old clothes and a mask, he would be stuffed with all the dead leaves from the trees, after taking him around the streets trying to make a few coppers he would sit on top of the bonfire November 5th and be burnt ! ! a practice that here in the city has died out, ( mainly i suppose for safety's sake )

Re: Merry Old Two

Didn't tell you that I even have my browser virtuallized using Sandboxie. With Sandboxie, that wouldn't have happend to you Gunner unless you chose to download a program and run it outside of Sandboxie (Sandboxie actually allows you to install many programs. If you don't like it, just delete the Sandbox. Your system doesn't even know anything changed). Just me; I'm very paranoid. Use to fix PCs so I've seen more then a few infected systems that motivated me to figure out a way to create fool-proof environment, and I have. Trust me. I'm actually better protected then any Macintosh would come close to be. That's the beauty of Virtual Machines. The problem with Parallels is that you still can get a virus through if you browse natively. Virtualizaing my browsing inside a VM is the way to go (in other words, double virtualization). People at DPR call what I'm doing overkill, but again, I don't get viruses. Even visit infected sites intentionally and laugh at them (haven't done this in a little while though; lol).

Re: Merry Old Two

Lyle that is a very neat piece of information. I am going to have to look into it, not just to be able to use other platforms apps but because as you say it is so safe. Who knew! Once again, thank you.

Re: Merry Old Two

Should have linked Sandboxie's site (since we can here). Free for personal use currently, but it will nag you after a month. Only had to pay for it once though, and that was over 2 years ago; get free updates. Worth it to me. Used it when I had the real XP and now use it in my XP VM in Win7. Does support Win7 64-bit, but not as good as 32-bit so I keep using it in the 32-bit XP environment since I want 100% protection.

Re: Merry Old Two

Parallels runs the XP OS; Sandboxie works in XP. Should be fine Gunner.

I tell you Sylvia; Fractilus in your hands really does make a fantastic watercolor sketch blend. I too like the spiral notebook addition.

Lyle, I'm surprised you can detect some Fractalius in there since I did mix a few different things I couldn't get anything I liked enough to post
