Zebras

Went to the zoo today as we were lucky: no snow, no rain and almost 10° (plus that is :-) ) Almost all of the habitants were fed and really lazy, so not too many fun pics. As I saw these I was reminded of Palms as she enjoys Zebras pics so much. So here they are for you all to play with :-)

Re: Zebras

Definitely love Zoo captures Amica. Thanks for sharing and the play. I did have to extract and change the background (ref: http://www.fontplay.com/freephotos/f...x100408-12.jpg). I first thought I could get away with just using Impressionist, but didn't like that result alone so I fed that result into FotoSketcher Oil Pastel Sketch preset and then blended it back in.

Re: Zebras

Looks great Lyle! I love going to the zoo because of the abundance of modells :-) Unfortunately they do not always provide great backgrounds :-( Your masking is great btw :-)

Re: Zebras

Amica, wish I was at the zoo, too! We've moved away from the NY area & I sure do miss the Bronx Zoo.

LOVE zebes! Had so much fun with this one I saved the whole PS file so I can get back to it again. Masked out bkgrnd, added a super pattern then played a little w/ blending modes & texture. Thanks.

Re: Zebras

Veronica that background reminded me of This... (turn sound OFF.. best at full screen.. stare at the center for at least 30 seconds, a minute is better or wait till it says "look away" then look at your hand that's holding the mouse or pen..or anything you think is stationary! )

Re: Zebras

No dear, you are mistaking I have waited till all the nasty snow was gone (there were masses ) and it wasn't all that cold. I haven't pressed the shutter since our Madeira trip and was desperate to do so. It was a nice change and I do believe I will do it again next winter - visiting some place with more civil temperatures like around 20° that is, fabulous climate not too cold nor too hot.... Love the sea, but am no beach fan (tanning/swimming) so it's perfect :-)

Lovely work I must say

Thanks Amica. Sort of used a variation (adapted to GIMP) of Chip's 10 second masking technique (but it took 10 minutes for me; lol).

Re: Zebras

Posted my water before seeing your Frac Peter. Very nice. Haven't quite figured out how to fake Fractilus yet, but it's still fun trying. Learned a lot from that experience which led to my water renderings by the way.

Re: Zebras

Maybe fine for Horseshoes and handgrenades Peter, but I still would like to get Fractilus figured out short of just buying it (which is always a possibility if I can find decent work (i.e., other then working for a fast food restaurant; haven't broken down to do so yet and the savings that I've accumulated for tha past 5 years won't last forever). Hope the economy gets better and some decent opportunities come to my home town (taking care of Dad and that's my priority right now).

Veronica, that looks promising, but a little small to see full details. Lots of colors came out, that's for sure :-)

Re: Zebras

Well, my quest for Fractilus lead to creating embroideries and that led to creating this cool Lissajous like Guillouche render technique (well I think it's cool anyway; lol). some of you might remember the arcade game Qix. So that's what I will now call it. A Qix render. lol
