It's hard to know what happened. I remember Deneba making great upgrade after great upgrade, and all of a sudden they sold to ACD. Maybe ACD bit off more than they can chew. Or maybe Deneba was about to go under, and ACD rescued the product. Do you know what happened?

I wasn't privy to everything that went down but those who were and commented online told a horror tale of the post-buyout. Management who were involved came and went, employees mostly went, ACD went private and we're all left shaking our heads ;-).

Canvas wasn't rescued, its technology was cannibalized to make ACD Photo Editor 2008 (which has now gone into the same black hole Canvas fell into).

If you're familiar with the Freehand situation (its acquisition, subsequent discontinuation and efforts by its users to revive it), this is kind of the same (without the class action lawsuit).

And I think we've hijacked this thread-!
