coloring book image.....ideas?

if you want just the black outlines the best program I've come across for that is Corel Paint's. In Essentials it's;

Effects>Surface Control>Sketch

Need a little more info...

What program (and version) are you using: Photoshop Elements 6, 7, 8? Paintshop Pro X2? or ???

That will dictate the advice given.

Hi Kramden
Here is an example of just taking an image of a boy on the beach (Stock Exchange http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1286629 and running through just one of the many filters using Filter Forge. Lots of slider controls to fine tune:

It would help as already asked if you provided more details e.g. do you want just the oulines, a sketched cartoon with full even black lines then filled with color etc.
