Thoughts on Scott Deardorff's painting?

Hi, I'm new to the forum

I really want to get into digital painting but have no idea how to do it. A friend pointed me to Scott Deardorff's DVDs on discount - http://www.photowhoa.com/deardorff_painting - it looks good but does anyone else have any experience with these? If so it would help a lot.

I haven't seen any of his DVD's but if you want to learn smudge painting he's your guy. He's excellent at turning a photo into something that looks like it was painted. Just Google some of his finished art to see what I mean.

Re: Thoughts on Scott Deardorff's painting?

Scott does some fantantic smudge paintings no doubt. As for the value of his CDs to me, I'm a filter guy and am too lazy to actually smudge, but other's here and other forums that I frequent find his CD courses worth it big time. If you want to be a good smudge artist, then, based on many I know (including Ray G's work), it's worth the cost.
