A little gift for you all - A better PaintEngine

Hey guys and gals, I had enough with the super tiny preview of that super cool plugin so I modified one of its resources for making it bigger and I finally ended up with two different versions, a large and and an xtra large one (see attached screenshots).

In the attached zip file there are two text files which correspond to the two screenshots. To get the plugin to look like any of those you'll need to open it yourself with the free program Reshacker and paste the content of the choosen text file over the content of the Dialog 117 resource, then click on the compile script button and save the plugin. That's all, easy and painless.

Hope you'll enjoy this as much as I do.

The plugin, for those who may not have it, is here btw:

Congrats on your creativity and the application of obvious programming skills.

Now, if you could do something similar to increase the size of the preview in the Microsoft Impressionist plugin, that would be a real service!

Well done and thanks.

Re: A little gift for you all - A better PaintEngi

DannyRaphael, I have no programing skills, I am just a bit on the geeky sides of things and know how to edit executable resources with Reshacker, which is very easy.

I am very sorry to say that this procedure doesn't seem to work with the MS Impressionist plugin, I have tried, and increasing the size of the preview area in the plugin dialog resource doesn't make the preview image automatically fit it like is the case with the PaintEngine and other plugins/programs I have edited in the past. The size of the preview image is apparently set somewhere in the compiled executable code, finding where it is and modifying it would certainly require the reverse engineering skills of a good hacker which I am not at all unfortunately.

Anyway, glad you're happy with this enhancement to the PaintEngine which hopefully is going to bring some new life round here to that IMO excellent and unique plugin.

Secret, mate, many thanks!

It's well done (I've made a few minor changes to mine - moved the click button up a bit and resized the apply one to suit me).

Would it help you to note that the Imopressionist preview box is about 2 or 3 overlaid boxes, you can get to the preview window my deleting the upper boxes.
You can now resize the preview image box, but you're STILL right - it make no difference to the final saved plugin.

i think it is hard coded somewhere to created a X by y window of the main image..
