Free Simplifier

Redfield plugins just released a free simplifier called Fine Touch. My quick impression is its simplifier algorithm is better than Buzz Pro. It seems to be better behaved at higher levels of simplification. What Fine Touch lacks is other features, such as edge finding lines. All it has is a simplifier with one slider.

I'd compare it side by side with Buzz Pro, but Buzz Pro doesn't work on my current computer. So I'm only going by memory. I did compare it to Topaz Simplify, and it's just different. Fine Touch seems more powerful at making a hard edge simplification, while Simplify seems to have a softer style.

If one of you is still able to run Buzz Pro, I'd be interested in hearing what what your side by side tells you. Try it on something like a face.

Re: Free Simplifier

hi,
This is indeed a nice tool - and as you say, more comparable with buZZ Pro than the Topaz product. But, it is PC only - Redfield (still) doesn't do plug-ins for the Mac.
The linework feature in buZZ was really simple - basically it was just an edge detection routine which operated on the simplified image.

Re: Free Simplifier

Thanks for the head up on that free plug-in. I like Redfields stuff especially Perfectum. While your there might as well download the free Face Control 2. I've been playing with the first Face Control for years.

Re: Free Simplifier

Here are some examples from buZZ.X that I did some years back, if they help in the comparison. Topaz Simplify is here.

Since you already have Perfectum, check out what it does for Fine Touch. It takes the hard edge of the simplification and turns it into a soft one. Or, at least on the one picture I tested.

Re: Free Simplifier

I ran a few pictures through version 2 and the extra sliders were making it harder for me to get results I like. So I tried to see if I could take a version 1 setting and translate it into version 2. Then use this as a starting place. I got very close. But I cannot find a perfect match. Here's what I have.

Version 1 set to a Radius of 054

Version 2 set to Radius 054, Level 011, Details -33, Diffusion off

With this setting Version 2 is a little darker and slightly different. But very close. If anyone can match this up better, please post the settings.
