Half the time (when I'm not lazy that is) I use ...

...a similar technique, so I have put some thought into a name for it.

Thank you Palms. The image just seemed to have enough and not too much detail to really make a nice piece of artwork.

I was planning to leave it there but it started to remind me of the paintings my mother did when I was a child, so I used Dave's Simplifier Action, and played around with the blend modes in the luminosity layer and the simplifier layer, to just give it the feeling of a painting.

Critique and feed back most welcome...
A belated welcome, Beth. Glad you lept into the pool.

By "first time at these forum thingies," do you mean this was your first shot at doing an arty manipulation or uploading your artwork? Regardless, I like how yours turned out.

re: rules of engagement
Ya did just fine here, too. While the "how to" details aren't a hard requirement, providing them is encouraged and appreciated, especially by the newbies and/or lurkers who are just getting into this sport.

I hope we'll be seeing more of your creativity in the future.
