I remember this one. You've inspired me to try again. I buzzed, VP oil with a strong canvas texture, then did another layer with septia, then another with just a teensy bit of PE arctic.

Good old-fashioned ps7 filters....in this order - crystallize 5; drybrush 0,10,1; spatter 8,15.
Image adjustments - selective colors for richer look.
Render lighting effects: Light type omni, on, intensity 25, greenish yellow color. Gloss 100, material 100, exposure 0, ambience 0, texture none.
Usm - 100,90,164.

Opened image 1 in corel painter and cloned with bristle brush (oil). Back to ps7 - filter other-custom. I love the way the brushstrokes suddenly came alive!

Any hints on the settings you used for the Custom filter?

A quick play with Painter (Oil Cloner).

Then touch up in Photoshop:
~dodging to darken a few shadows
~highpass to deepen paint strokes
~saturation adjustment to increase color saturation
~a few paint strokes
~Wow-paint edge enhance extreme filter

I think it's the Default custom filter, i.e. centre box 5, surrounded by minus 1 on all four sides. Rest of the boxes are empty.

I began w/ a tutorial I found here called "Crackled Color" and then went off on my own, using selections & hue/sat to enhance the color range.

Stuck with Digital Water Colours mainly.
Used DWC cloners at times also Blenders/Stump

Tried to achieve something Van gogh would have made, with just gradient-map layer for color change. But dissatisfied with result.
Anyway, details in layer palette. Gradient map used is color harmonies 1 -Blue-Violet, Yellow-Orange. Might still find that magical colorscheme!
