Gavin - nice image! Jeff - nice addition of texture.

I used Color range to select the oranges, blacks, whites, and blue to separate layers where I could heighten saturation, blur a bit, and apply brush strokes.

Then I decided to make a basic sketch image underneath my color layers; liked that combination and then added a white layer on top to start erasing off with a rough brush - but then decided to add a type of window covering layer over that to give them something to hide behind and peek out.

Well, I couldn't resist them. Just look what happens when I get a couple of days off, , I get lots of work (Not!) done.

For the kittens, I adjusted levels, buzzed lightly, added a little noise, and using the smudge tool, painted the image. Then I used the artistic - paint daubs filter (thanks for posting this, AndyB, I use it a lot - http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/sho...ghlight=Connor) and high pass filter, added a solid color adjustment layer, painted to reveal the picture, and added a texture.

Sure are cute kittens.

DigiDoodle action by Mike Finn

I am privileged to be a beta tester for Mike Finn's DigiDoodle action. See examples posted by Mike in these threads:
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/7669-creative-interpretations-commuter-train.html
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/7621-creative-interpretations-portrait-elena.html

It never ceases to be amazed by Mike's creativity. DigiDoodle should be available soon.

Kittens

Thanks CJ for the info on how to post.
Paint Shop Pro user. But not a pro by any means.
Did HSL adj - B/C adj - G.Blur. Saw this suggestion on DP Retouch.
Dulp layer but used saturation . Adj opacity . Blend emboss. Merged.

Ah, very subtle, Justme. I like this a lot. Glad you plowed through the upload minefield. Good to have another PSP player among us, too.

RE: "Saw this suggestion on DP Retouch"
I'm not familiar with this site. Would you post the URL?

TIA

Love kittys'. Got 3 myself. Duped then ran M.F. Sketcher then pasted back into original. Hue Saturation adjustment and cranked up the Sat. Ran a Curves adjustment and increased contrast.

Cheers

Some layering, some texturing, some filtering and some painting.
What layering? What texturing? What filtering? How did I paint it?
I can’t remember!

I found a way to make their fur grow -- sharpen a lot, then diffuse-anisotropic, then repeat once or twice more!

I love this effect!!!! But wondering why there are horizontal and vertical lines running through it....they must've been there on the original?! No matter, I like what've you've done with this.

Yeah, let's see what else we can use it on!

Neve, yes, I'm guessing the sharpening emphasized all the lines -- I was too busy looking at the kittens' fur grow to notice the other much, and I decided it was "artistic texture".
Your kittens are so sweet and soft!

I really like AmyHutton's March '04 effort. Mine perhaps looks a bit similar, but certainly came by a different path.

BG: Warmed the colors some. Cropped to taste.
A: Copy BG. Pixelate>Facet. Stylize>FindEdges. Artistic>Cutout. BrushStrokes>Spatter. (Luminosity, 100%).
B: Levels Adj. Grouped with layer A to tame the high key effect some.
C: Painting & filtering on an empty layer to darken the black kitten (which turned white from layer A). Getting this to blend in was tough.
D: MergeVisible(BG,A,B,C). Artistic>Sponge. (Normal, 39%)
E: A mild texture overlay.

I forgot how adorable these little kitties are...

Mine:
* Duplicate of original Background to which Impressionist > Chalk > Faithful was applied
* Duplicate of original Background dragged to top of layer stack and added a Layer Mask. Used low opacity Chalk 36 to bring back some detail
* New layer filled with 50% Gray set to Overlay. Texture > Texturizer > Trimoon Art Class 101
* New layer filled with white. Added a Hide All layer mask. Used regular brush to bring back most of the image and a large Chalk 36 brush at low opacity for the "chalky edges."

Meow!
