Creative interpretations: Sax Man

Although these weren't quite what I was heading for when I started "sax man", I do like what and ended up with and the journey I had getting to the finished products.

Has i have not added to this forum in what seems ages, i have done two of this picture, a friend of mine wanted a sax man picture and i have done two, she prefers the 3d one, which is fine, its her choice LOL!

First one i use painter9 first, then i used ps7 filter unlimited2.

This is one of my first dabbles in Painter - although it only came alive in post-processing with Photoshop.

Sure didn't take you long to get your arms around Painter. Fine, fine creation, here.

What did you do in PS for post processing?

LA - both great results but I much prefer the first. Your textures are always beautifully done.

Did the cloning in Painter with my little mouse-Resat trick.
Ends up looking pretty much like the original, but then took to PS to bring out the strokes....

- Made a background from the coat colour;
- Set the Painted layer to hard-light - wasn't enough so..;
- Duplicated the Painted layer and set this to Soft, opacity +-50%;

Bring out the Brush strokes
1) Duplicate painted layer;
2) Fiilter>Other>Custom (embossing setup)

1 0 0
0 0 0
0 0 -1, offset 128;

(0 - is the centre)

3) High-Pass radius, +-1.0 on the embossed layer;
4) Auto-Levels on this layer (now got a grey layer full of strokes);
5) Tweak blending (Soft / Overlay / Hard / Linear) and opacity until satisfied.

- Also Render>Lighting from top-left to complement the top-left embossing.

I must admit that I cheated completely with this image. I used an application called MacOSaiX http://homepage.mac.com/knarf/MacOSaiX/ which takes a source image and turns it into a mosaic using thousands of small thumbnail pictures that fall into the right tonal range for it’s grid location.

It asks for a location for images to use for the mosaic. You can choose google image search and enter a couple of search terms. It can be quite memorizing watching this picture slowly take form from little pictures.

To see the picture to its best effect, you should sit back a couple of meters from the screen.

Nothing wrong with cheating considering the wonderful results and a facinating technique.

What did you use for Google search items? Can you do something like "european cars" and get all car pics?

You can ask it to search for anything you can think of. I had to shrink it down for the 100k limit, but it will print out as an A3 no problem, so you can see the thumbnails quite clearly
