| | | Here's my effort on this one.
duplicate of background with Photocopy filter, overlaid in soft light mode then a second duplicate of background using impressionist pencil sketch and hue changed to a deep magenta (colorize) and overlay mode.

| | For my renditions, I used PS usm, lighting effects, Buzz Pro, VP oil paint and watercolor, and various textures. For the charcoal version, I added VP colored pencil, soft grain and noise and desaturated

| | | Hi Christine.
Flaming Pear makes a plugin called India Ink I use it as the first step to simplifying the luminosity pattern. But then I have to get rid of all the dots it creates. So I run Diffuse|Anisotropic in Photoshop. Then Smart Blur. Then Diffuse|Anisotropic again. Then copy background and place on top of stack, and set to color blending mode. Or, set to normal blending mode, low opacity, and increase saturation with a hue/saturation layer (which is what I did with this picture). Of course, right near the end I decided to colorize it and throw in some blending modes to increase the contrast. So I don't think saturation made much difference. |

| | | Thanks Andrew - must give that a try - I wasn't too impressed with the india ink plug in but obviously it has potential.

| | Attractive pose and nice renditions.
I would guess there are those that will question if my entry belongs in the photo-art category, although I would have to respectfully disagree.
Anyway, my goal was to enhance her already sensual features.
Ran digital sho followed by a color correction.
Used Adapt.eq slightly to detail her hair.
Ran Nik sunshine to highlight her hair followed by painting in some contrast.
Applied Flaming pear's lacquer to enhance lips and eye area.
Used Nik skylight to bring additional color to skin.
Applied xero moodlight to color the BG.
Selected eyes and lessened the color with Hue & Sat.
Selected and applied Nik midnight to add addional shadows to body edge.
evened out skin texture.
Added noise for depth. |

Given the dramatic difference between "before" and "after," the thought never occurred to me until I read your comment.
The distinction between "art" and "manipulation" is murkey at best. Quite frankly in my view what you've done is most acceptable in this forum. What you do and how you do it is of value to many regardless of how it's classified.
Keep it up. |

Did you splice in a layer of Find Edges (or equivalent) for the outline detail which was applied via Layer Mask? If not, do tell! |

No Danny, VP as in "Virtual Painter". I often use a layer of VP drawing or Collage or both sometimes in diff layers, but then I also work on those layers to obliterate and retain just the amount of black lines i want in the image. Good trick huh??!
Sometimes i do add a layer of "find edges" but tend to lose that certain "softness" which i prefer. It all depends on what i want to convey. |
