Another take using Impressionist:Crayon-Distress Fresco Rubbing 2 with Photoshops Sprayed Strokes,Color Halftone and Crosshatch added.

Steve & Palms - thanks for the comments. Steve, I like your 'messing around' version. Palms - love the color.
This is indeed a nice photo and there's some great work by everybody. I suspect I'll have another go at it before I'm done.

Here's my try. Both Painter IX. Both with Wet Oil brush.

Nice renditions Howard - I like the second one best - has an "oily" look about it.
Here's another quick version - impressionist in PS then airbrush in Painter.

Like Craig, I wanted to change the mood.

Darkened the overall image with a very dark blue photo filter. Masked that with a cone shaped mask to so it would effect only the background areas.

Set a Curve AJ to darken the background a little more.

Added another photo filter, this time a warming yellow orange to change the over all color ambience to a warm glow.
