Creative interpretations: Beatles, John Lennon

One of the greatest of all time in my opinion...

Get down, get funky.

I couldn't agree with you more Danny. It's hard to comprehend the number of songs he has written and that I still enjoy. I used L'Amico Perry: Luce on the background. Selected John and ran Xero: Radiance followed by Amphisoft: Simplifier.

Cheers
Dave

"I am the Walrus..."

Dave:

The face detail you bright out gives him that 'scruffy' look that's simply classic. I like the how the background effects came out, giving it kind of a concert look.

- - - - - - - - -

I was experimenting with Painter 8 (again), this time with the Charcoal > Hard Charcoal variants set to "clone color" mode. I was just scribbling away in clone mode, trying different opacities and brush sizes. See first attachment. This took about 10 minutes.

BTW: Someone asked the other day if I use a pen/tablet. A: I wish, but not yet. I'm considering an Intuos II. Maybe in the next month or so.

Then in Photoshop I opened up the file created by Painter and a copy of the original .jpg image. I copied the Painter-rendered layer into the duplicate of the original image so I would have an original background with which to work.

I duplicated the original background a couple times and applied various filters, which were selectively blended using layer masks:
* Photoshop Colored Pencil - for a little detail
* Impressionist: Chalk: Bright Strokes on Black (Background=Custom/white) - for the choppy looking background
* Impressionist: Pencil Sketch - Color Detail - for a little more detail

Danny question: Working in Painter 8 this morning and my computer crashed! First time EVER. It starts 'grinding noise' after only a few strokes. I have a mac Powerbook G4, 1.33ghz, 1 GBDDRSDRAM. No other apps. open. I am skittish.

Grinding noise is not a good thing regardless of platform. Although you heard it during use of Painter, I doubt there is a cause/effect relationship.

If it persists, I'd turn off my computer immediately and take it in for service. What you don't want to happen is for your hard disk to crash "hard," which would toast all the files on it (no recovery). As is, a service tech should be able to rescue all the files and transfer them to a replacement hard disk if that's the diaglosis.

That said, your pic turned out nice. John would be happy.

Hope you get past your problem soon.
~Danny~

I love John Lennon's music as well. I felt bold, dramatic colors would be meaningful.

One of my favorite musicians, too..but as a teen I preferred Paul. Went to see them in concert once and couldn't hear a darn thing.

Buzz, VP airbrush, tone down the red, VP oil, soften. Makes him look like he's doing a concert in heaven.

Well, I hope it's not your last try. Indeed, this sport can be a lot of fun.

Welcome and let's see more of your creations in the future.
