Nice Alan. That's a keeper for sure!

Do one for us with that kind of brushwork while bringing out greater detail.

Have been fumbling around for that for a good while. Still can't do it.

Re: Creative interpretations: Holland - Amsterdam Canal

Steve, thanks for the comments. Here's a re-do. I changed the colors to resemble a impressionistic palette (perhaps went too far) and tried to bring back more detail.

Not too far for me......great brush strokes and nice detail!

I either seem to get too much brush or too little detail when I go for a heavy brush look. That's a nice compromise.

Re: Creative interpretations: Holland - Amsterdam Canal

This beautiful picture reminded me of a pastime we used to do and would actually frame our results.
I did some impressionist and added the puzzle texture.

Wonderful versions of this difficult picture!
Wow, Alan, you sure did a great job with this picture! Did you use Impressionist?

Wow folks; I snooze from this thread for a few days, and it's all but doubled with some fantastic interpretations. Kudos.

Re: Creative interpretations: Holland - Amsterdam

Sylvia, thanks for your comment. Yes, both of my interpretations were made in photoshop using the impressionist plugin.

Re: Creative interpretations: Holland - Amsterdam

Now you'll have to bear with me for this one, I know it looks weird, I've been playing with an "Unplugged" filter called "Defocus" (another freebie).

The best way to view it is to, make it Full screen,Hit the tab button to hide the tools etc., Stand up and walk about 10 to 12 feet away. OK done it have you. Right face the other way and close your eyes.
See - I knew you would appreciate it better like that.
