(All in PShop v7)
First I did a few layers of Select Color Range to brighten the image in the sunlit areas and the ocean -- copied selection to new layer and set to Screen layer mode -- used Hue/Sat adjustment to add some sunlight color. Made a stamped copy of my result and duped this layer. Ran Stylize->Glowing Edges on top layer and set layer mode to Screen.

Tried to do two things at once:

1) Tweak Phyllis Stewart's abstract method to my taste;
2) Get the layer palette to tell the whole story.

I've always liked Phyliss's technique. Your implementation of it is quite creative. Nicely done, Rô.

I did mine with a mess of layers, using buzz, VP gouache, PSP8 impressionist brush. Again, reducing it spoils it. So I included a detail of the full size version.

CJ - very nice effort, well done! Amy - that's lovely, I recognise the PSP8
brushstroke, a favourite of mines! Byro - terrific effect, I love it too. I've got Phyllis' "Abstract Technique" however cannot get the same result, as yet, in PSP8! Danny - those are lovely! Got your own 'style' ....!

PSP8.01

Levels to lighten image.
Dupe bottom layer
L2 - Paint Alchemy/misc/dense crayon/default
Dupe layer - Mode/Dodge 32% - dupe layer
L3 - Mode/Lum.(L) 54%
Merge all and dupe layer.
L2 - Mode/Soft Light - merge all and dupe layer.
L2 - Dodge/Negative/50%
Merge all.

Added a mask, then onto new background (noise added and
Paint Alchemy filter applied again). Merged all.

First layer -- brightened image with levels adjustment, color boost with selective color (cyan esp.)and hue-sat 0,43,-9.
2nd layer -- create tiff file from image-threshold. Then, go to the impr. plug-in - i used this image tiff file for all these settings - general background, brush and color background. Style was paint-linear brush. Using selective color, reduced neutrals.
Finally, vp watercolor, and vp oil (fade).

Here's another. Learnt a trick in a pshop tutorial (dont remember where, sorry). Create a blank layer which goes under the original backgr layer, and using the select-color range feature in ps7 feature, pick up colors from the bckgr layer, paint the underlying blank layer with those colors in the mask that gets created each time.
I worked on this one in Corel photopaint -- its color-mask feature works just like the select-color range feature in ps7. Combined the 2 layers in photopt using "logical and" blend. Boosted sat in ps7.
After that I used a modified impressionist plug-in to give it the watercolor effect.

Some RP members have claimed they believe I don't condone non-Photoshop programs, but the truth is I have no problem with them. When you can get results like this, why would I object? Creative possibilities are multiplied with additional tools.

This is another exceptionally creative approach, jaykita, and I sure appreciate the dual-progam details.

Danny: That young man and I have have the same problem with fishing. Anyway here is what I did:
1. Used levels to adjust colors and contrast.
2. Ran pam to soften image
3. Little Ink Pot Chalkaholic
4. Used the burn tool to bring up the left eye.
