Hi Xplorer,

This started out as a photo of a glossy black ceramic head I have. I used the Liquify filter to distort it. As it was lit from only one side I duplicated and flipped it to make a whole face. I combined the two Layers back into one and created a Render Clouds Layer above this. I Selected the Highlights Ctrl+Alt+~(Tilde) and used that as a partial Mask.I ran the Stylize>Extrude filter followed by the Radial Zoom filter.

After this I created a Gradient Adjustment Layer with a Levels adjustment Layer to control the effect. I then duplicated the original Background i.e. Face Layer and dragged it to the top of the pile, finally I added a pair of Owls eyes and used Transform>Distort to fit them into the right spot, apart from that nothing else was changed.

Hope you like it.

Regards

Absolutely amazing !!! Reading your technique to produce this art work it sounds so straight forward BUT I imagine there were LOTS of steps along the way that led nowhere. The end product certainly justifies the effort you put into the project. I would love to see the original image of the head that you started with - any chance ?

Thanks for all those kind words.

Here's the shot you asked for. Feel free to play with it to your hearts content.

Cool find Joe; was before my time. I like your result too. Went Paint Engine followed by G'MIC's Anisotrophic smoothing (and a few additional tweaks).

Re: Creative interpretations: Eyes

I took my previous effort (Paint Engine Arctic and Fake smudge via G'MIC's Anisotrophic smoothing) and fed it into PostworkShop's Acanthus Leaves preset. Glad you liked the result Fran.

Thanks, Lyle. I never would have guessed that that was all you did. I was prepared not to understand anything you said!!! :-)
