combining pictures

Hello all,
Forgive me for asking such a simple question but, can anyone tell me how to put two seperate pictures into one ? I want to have them side by side in one picture. So far everything I have tried has not worked. I'm using Photoshop 7.
Thanks in advance
Don

make an image the width of both pictures combined. Copy and paste them both into the new image and drag one till it hits the right edge and one till it hits the left edge.

Alternately, you can open one image and do a Image>Canvas Size. Then designate a size will will accommodate both images and click a square to position your current image where you want it to be on the canvas. Click OK.
Then just open your 2nd image and drag it over or use Copy/Paste. Position it, size it if necessary. Then crop the whole canvas if necessary.

Thank you NancyJ and mistermonday for your help.
I knew there would be an easy way to do it. I wanted to put a before and after in one picture. Your help is very much appreciated.
Thank you
Don
