Cool How to create a Reflection

Friend of mine, ask me to create reflection in a floor of a standing horse.
He show me this picture (in attachment), and said that "this is exactly what he needs".

Horse will be photographed on white background in a studio.
Any clues, how to make a real-look-like reflection?

BDW- I make this car&boy post-production. I just would like to know other peoples workshop.

Thanks for any tips and tricks!

dupe. flip vertical, blur, adjust opacity, brush out with mask. fade as you see fit.

Re: How to create a Reflection

i hope ant dont mind me using his horese pic....

one thing i hate about doing reflections, is when you flop the image, making sure all points that are reflected touch...like the horse's hooves...if they don't meet it doen't look like a true reflection.

we shoot cigarette packs that are setup like a the nyc skyline for example, some in front and some in back of each other...and when you vert. flip the shot, the packs that are in the back are now further away from each other so you have to cheat and get them to touch on the horizon. a real pain.

Re: How to create a Reflection

yeah, what ^he said. we do a lot of packaging that is reflected, same problem.

edit: helps if the subject has something to 'stand on' (shadow) like in the pic stopa posted.

Exactly- I agree with KR1156!!! I have the same problem! Look at this example: One leg in front of the second...
When you flip the image, reflection won't fit! I have to skew and distort the reflection- and the transformation starts to damage the image. I am not content of the result.
What do you think?

Re: How to create a Reflection

You may like to distort the reflection's perspective some more, assuming the 'ground' the reflection is on is at a right angle to the horse and the viewing angle is a little under 90 degrees also. I have put together a very rough and basic example to give you the gist of what I'm talking about.

Re: How to create a Reflection

my tip is 2 ways vto do it and that is:

-duplicate horse
-rotatet the dup so its mirrored with and aligned with the horse feet.
-tilt the dup abit to make the perspective more real. to tilt hold down ctrl button and a grey colour on the mousebutton will appear. drag on of the corners on the dup and it will tilt in perspective.
-apply a quickmask
-with the quickmask active apply a gradient going from black to white.

way number to is:

instead of applying quickmask just apply gradient tool witht the original background colour to transparent. but the quicmask gives more correct result!

Re: How to create a Reflection

I tried to move the "g" down with one of the character tools.
In the Characters palet I added about 12 pts to the "shift base line" box. I could have gone a few more points.? You have to highlight the letter you want moved, for this to work.
then I used the edit/transform/flip vertical. the I changed the perspective - you may want some other angle.

I think that's a good way to do it. Thanks.

Re: How to create a Reflection

How about this?

Duped, inverted, skewed, lightly GB'd, gradient mask on shadow.
