Hi Chris

i have a question regarding your masking method of water. how do you apply this method to water shot against a BLACK background (flash freezed)? i had the following problem which i couldn't yet solve:

essentially what happens in your method for water against a white background is that light water areas become transparent. this preserves the important shadow parts in the drops. against a black background, the black areas should become transparent (which can be done with a mask computed using calculations). unfortunately, i end up with a masked water layer which has no shadows in the drops (since black areas got transparent).

can you point me in the right direction? i would like to shoot the water against a black background since that way i can flash-freeze any action.

thanks and best wishes!

p.s. here's a link to an example image showing water against a black background, found it via google:

Hi, I'm new in here, it would be very interesting to follow this topic from the beginning, really a nice topic, and I've learn many things on it. Good job. I never used the calculation before, until I read this, and still learning on it. Thanks for all...

That latest tutorial on page 7 here is nice. Shame the author is too lazy to correct the shadows and highlights cast by the water. But hey, 90% of Photoshoppers are hobbyists and not real artists anyway, so what can ya do.

I had a quick troll of this thread an didn't see a link to the television commercial for Mattoni that featured an animated water dress...

HiRes clip: http://motionographer.com/wp-content..._star_h264.mov

The dress was combination of Maya and Realflow.

The water dress truly would be a lot of work.
I was redirected to THIS page:
http://www.sandaliagiselebundchen.com.br/
when i clicked on one of the intitial posted links. What's funny is how BAD of a job the clipping on the hair is on the splash page, in comparison to the composition of the water dress! hAHa! They missed a "couple" of spots...

If this image is "NSFW" I would immediately go hunt for another job where the boss does have a relaxed gluteus maximus.

Guys, I'm doing a project for uni that involves me creating an umbrella out of water. How should I go about tackling this? What colour background should I use when I shoot the water, and how would I extract it?

I plan to shoot lots of water and merge the best, possibly using the liquify tool to enhance the shape wherever possible.

It's going to be similar to this shot here http://pr3t3nd3r.deviantart.com/art/...ower-102041552 but not on a black background, unless that's absolutely necessary.

Cheers guys.
