Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Very nice discussion you have here guys! That campaign really amazed me when I saw it and I am always glad to see it around! BTW I have just ordered few books mentioned above containing Calculations! Hopefully I will learn something from them. BTW Chops book is available on US Amazon for around 50$!!

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Hi, Not as seasoned as most of you, but is there a link or tutorial out there to explain "calculations" to mask water. Have never heard of the term. Would appreciate getting "schooled" on it. Thanks, Ro

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Calculations are not always a "if you have this and want this, do this" kind of tool. The settings I gave to mask out that water were tailored to that piece in particular and would need to either be tweaked or tossed depending on other images. Chris

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Hi Chris i have a question regarding your masking method of water. how do you apply this method to water shot against a BLACK background (flash freezed)? i had the following problem which i couldn't yet solve: essentially what happens in your method for water against a white background is that light water areas become transparent. this preserves the important shadow parts in the drops. against a black background, the black areas should become transparent (which can be done with a mask computed using calculations). unfortunately, i end up with a masked water layer which has no shadows in the drops (since black areas got transparent). can you point me in the right direction? i would like to shoot the water against a black background since that way i can flash-freeze any action. thanks and best wishes! p.s. here's a link to an example image showing water against a black background, found it via google: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/24/64...53dc50.jpg?v=0

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Hi, I'm new in here, it would be very interesting to follow this topic from the beginning, really a nice topic, and I've learn many things on it. Good job. I never used the calculation before, until I read this, and still learning on it. Thanks for all...

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - That latest tutorial on page 7 here is nice. Shame the author is too lazy to correct the shadows and highlights cast by the water. But hey, 90% of Photoshoppers are hobbyists and not real artists anyway, so what can ya do.

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - The water dress truly would be a lot of work. I was redirected to THIS page: http://www.sandaliagiselebundchen.com.br/ when i clicked on one of the intitial posted links. What's funny is how BAD of a job the clipping on the hair is on the splash page, in comparison to the composition of the water dress! hAHa! They missed a "couple" of spots... RyRY

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Guys, I'm doing a project for uni that involves me creating an umbrella out of water. How should I go about tackling this? What colour background should I use when I shoot the water, and how would I extract it? I plan to shoot lots of water and merge the best, possibly using the liquify tool to enhance the shape wherever possible. It's going to be similar to this shot here http://pr3t3nd3r.deviantart.com/art/...ower-102041552 but not on a black background, unless that's absolutely necessary. Cheers guys.

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - I'm having a bit of trouble extracting the water from my shots. I'm using calculations but can't really get it right. Can anyone show me where i'm going wrong? 2 examples of images can be found here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/...64163167_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3259/...9c933c4a_b.jpg If anyone could give them a go and see what they can achieve I'd be infinitely greatful

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Once I get time, I definitely need to sit down and learn calculations.. towards what background is it most ideal to shoot water? white might blend good, but you may have more detail towards more darker. Any technical views on this? On the two (great) examples posted here, there is dark background, but skintones are quite bright. Like I said, I haven`t tried this myself, I just wonderd what is the most ideal

Re: Water Dress (AMAZING work!) - Possibly NSFW - Everyone. Again, the numbers I gave to extract the water using calculations were pretty specific to the images that were on hand. While the same numbers can potentially give similar results with other images it is not always going to work out right. The best suggestion I have is to play around with calculations. Don't try to reach an end point for anything. Just keep trying different settings and watching the results. Eventually you will get the hang of it and what to expect. Calculations isn't something you learn overnight or even over a few months. Its complicated and relatively straight forward at the same time. The numbers I gave to use for the water took me about 5 minutes to figure out, but that was only because I have been using calculations for 15 years or so. And I didn't have a book to use for reference. I just kept playing around with the tool. Chris
