so once the calculations have been done, how do you easily set the 'water' part onto another image?

Once you have done the calculations and before you close the calculation windows check out the last comboBox and select Result as New Channel, then press ok. You will have a new channel with the calculation you did, you can find it in the channel palette. Then load that channel as selection and use it to select the water in the layer you have the water and take it where ever you want.

Hi I'm very new to this... been reading though everything, well as much as I can find online anyway.... been playing around with the images provided, and really not getting the effects I was expecting

It would be awesome, if someone could provide a brief tutorial on this. thanks!!!

Shan

Which do you want the tutorial for? The use of the resulting calculations mask or how to use calculations?

If it is the latter item that would be one hell of a tutorial. Calculations is not an easy thing to grasp and much harder to properly teach. The formula I put up for these water masks is nearly specific to the images presented for demonstration.

There are a LOT of ways to use calculations, but they are all mostly image dependent. One thing might not necessarily work for another.
