Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

I guess this is the right place to put this?

This is made up of nearly 20 different elements composited together. Would love to hear your thoughts, I've posted it in a couple of photography forums with not much love, thought I'd give it a shot here

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

I like the work you did! This must have taken you a long time. Where did you get your source images from?

My only critiques..
I think the hue of the sky should be a little grayer.
I also feel that the light on her face should be more intense because of the flashlight.
The dude holding the flashlight is a little over retouched too. He looks more like an illustration in comparison to the other elements.

Besides that, kudos to you.

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

Thanks Jennifer.. I had another comment about that one being over done as well, I thought it was because the jacket and skin were just smoother (naturally) than most of the other elements, but perhaps I should go back and work on it more.

Just checked out your work btw, excellent stuff!

I think the other thing that stood out to me besides the guy was the light on the woman's leg especially her right hip/thigh area, Almost looks like there is another direct light source, like a flash light beam shining on it.

That's an incredible job, how many hours do you have in that image?

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

Thank you.. yes the lighting was tricky. There was probably 10-12 hours put into all together I guess, maybe less. Should have kept better track of that, I will next time for sure.

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

Very nice job. I agree with the above comments. What's up with th the left arm (right side of the image) of the guy who is standing? His hand and part of the jacket sits off to the side of the rest of the jacket's arm. Like it was cut and pasted back incorrectly.
Also on the guy who is holding the flashlight: I don't think there should be light under his right (left side of image) knee where the leg fabric attaches. It looks like it wasn't masked in completely in that area.
Very cool image.

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

Nothing is 'up' with it, it's how the photo was taken, I don't see the problem with him. He looks quite normal in RL, I assure you.

If the only light source were from the flashlight, the rest of the image would be quite dark, right? This is fiction, some liberties had to be taken. The idea was not to make it look like a real photo, I wanted it somewhere between a photo and an illustration.

Thanks for the comments.

Oh and to Jennifer, all the source images were original photos.

Re: Dead End [Photo-Illustration]

I think that this looks really good. The things that I noticed are, the guy with the flash light and the girl look plastic. The light direction is not consistent. The light on the girl comes from the front left, They guy with the flashlight appears to be lit from straight on, and the other guy appears to be lit from the right. The road appears to have a spotlight on shining on it which is consistent with the light on the girl, and here shadow. They guys don't either one seem to have a shadow. Perhaps they are ghosts?

With all of that being said, putting a good montage together like this requires a lot of work and a lot of attention to detail. Getting the lighting correct is a key to making a montage work, and can be very diffacult to do. What you have done is stunning.

I like it and i think its on the right track for where your headed .

I was going to question the 2 yellow stripes in the road that head toward a fence in the background ?

Cool retouch either way , well done !
