Okay, what do you think?

I'm new and I'm not sure where to put this at all, but this sub forum is the best place I could see. If I'm wrong, please correct me. ^^'

Basically I got bored, found some stock images from my stash and created this:
http://mistress-evalaina.deviantart....hite-100958051

I'd love some creative critisism, but please be nice. I've only had PS for about six months, and got my tablet a month ago, so it's nothing really special.

Re: Okay, what do you think?

Very pleasing to the eye. If I saw this version of snow white as a child I might have grown up much faster!

Not sure about the snowwhite moniker, but I really like the composition of your picture.
Really nice.

Re: Okay, what do you think?

I was looking for the letter in the owls talons... as in Harry Potter! Lovely work however.

Re: Okay, what do you think?

Here's some constructive feedback for you

1. Shadows.
the biggest give away here is that your model is not casting a shadow and there is a distinct lightsource (the window). Also the shadows on the model are from a light source left of frame, the shadows on your background are coming from the window.

2. Check the scale. If you're looking for a realistic composite then your model is a little undersized. a good visual clue here is the floorboards. These have 'realworld' standard sizing most people will recognize.

these would be the main 2 points.

Re: Okay, what do you think?

Evalaina,
I am so glad I happened upon your image. For me this is one of those images that grabs a person and moves them for some unknown reaason.

I love the white dress in contrast to the purple gel and it gives me in one way a spooky, haunted feeling because a lot of us relate that color purple (almost a blacklight color) to a haunted house type scenario. In another way, although she in no way resembles Stevie Nicks, I get that whole Bella Donna vibe from her expressions and color nuiasances that can be found throught the imgage. The owl adds a special bit of mystique overall, one reason being that I have some sort of kindered spirit thing going on with all owls (a very long story). If I had one critcism I wish the owl had a bit of a different angle almost like he was coming in to light and the wings were spread open to gather the momentum stopping wind and it is in the process of lighting. Overall a lovely image so keep up with it.

Chris

Re: Okay, what do you think?

Nice image, Evalaina. But the out-of-whack perpendiculars disturb me.

Re: Okay, what do you think?

I think it looks good. The purple lighting seems unnatural in places.

Talking Re: Okay, what do you think?

She's going to get that beautiful dress all dirty!! LOL!

Very cool manip! Reminds me of something sci-fi. Like those bolts are going suck her right out the window if someone comes around the corner. Me likey the purple color.

As far as a critique. I'm not so good at them but here's what I notice.

I would work on shadowing. It's hard to tell where some of the light source is coming from. An example would be... why is her dress so white and bright when the light is coming in from the window? It looks like she has a spot light on her but no shadow to prersuede the eye. Does that make sense?

She also looks a little small in scale compared to her surroundings but that might have been done on purpose.

Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see more!

I tried to blend two images together and it just doesn't look right. I wasn't brave enough to post mine. LOL
